Rotary Wing Laser Scanning (LiDAR)
Blom has over five years extensive experience in the acquisition and processing of airborne laser-scanning (LiDAR) data, having pioneered the use of the technology on infrastructure and transportation routes. Blom has specialized in the use of the TopEye system which is now in its second generation collecting over 50.000 points per second, to a high degree of accuracy.
Its primary advantage is its excellent ability to penetrate vegetation and fly at low altitudes producing point densities of up to 20 points / sq metre, enabling large scale topographic surveys to be undertaken of highways and railways without the need for access by land surveyors.

The advantages of the TopEye Mk II system are:
- Rapid data collection, up to 50 km per hour.
- Precise terrain profiling, accuracies of +/-3.5 cm (z) and +/- 5 cm (x, y) are achievable, from an altitude of 300 feet (100 metres).
- Vegetation penetration.
- High resolution ortho-rectified imagery (approximately 2-3 cm from an altitude of 300 feet).
- Less weather dependant than conventional aerial photography.
- Health & safety, no access is required to the site.
