DIGITAL MAPPING FOR TELECOMMUNICATION COMPANY

Between 2001- 2004 a Integrated Digital Cartographic Database of the most important Italian cities were executed and established for the Italian telecommunication company TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile- Rome).

The database includes aerial photos and digital cartography of the most important information related to the urban structure of the inner centre of the 110 major Italian cities. The total covered area is about 4 475 sq.km, and the flight was executed at the scale 1:9000. To avoid as much perspective distortion of the images itself as possible Kodak colour 300mm film cameras were used .

The images (approximately 9 000) have been digitised with a photogrammetric scanner at the resolution of 14 mm, and subsequently a DTM of 5 x 5 metre grid was created together with the cartography at the final scale of 1:2 000.

This product is the base of the geographic database used by the TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile) company for the management of the land information with particular regard to the positioning of the antennas, the control of the coverages and everything related to the simulation and planning of information for mobile phone communications.
