SAL GeoViewer
Introduction
BLOM Aerofilms GeoViewer (SAL GeoViewer) is a simple to use GIS desktop computer program that provides much of the functionality found in more expensive products. It is designed to visualise geospatial data and provide the user with a better understanding of the relationships between the data sources. In doing so it creates an improved basis for decision making and problem solving.
GeoViewer's ability to read a wide range of raster and vector formats makes it an invaluable tool for many professional groups and the casual user of GIS, CAD and image data.
Capabilities
SAL GeoViewer has the ability to manipulate and support TIFF, JPEG2000, JPG, BMP, MrSID and ECW raster file formats. GeoViewer also supports a variety of vector file formats including; ESRI SHP, DXF, DWG and DGN formats.
SAL GeoViewer also offers additional functionality by utilising a set of ESRI Shape file processing tools. The user can, for example, build queries in order to define search criteria and find features in a shape file. The thematic mapping tool allows the user to visualise analysis of data and attributes.
JPEG 2000 Files
JPEG 2000 is a compressed format for greyscale and colour images. JPEG 2000 is a wavelet-based compression stored in a hierarchical format, which contains several stored resolutions of the image in the same file without duplication.
The JPEG 2000 file format provides greater flexibility and better image quality, especially at higher compression, than standard JPEG. JPEG 2000 is growing in popularity and starting to challenge more established raster formats.
